Separated by a common language

There are two stories that we've been meaning to tell you:

1. Guess what the first thing a doctor in England offers a new mother after giving birth?

A pain-reliever?  A glass of water?  An energy drink?  An embroidered blanket?  A gold medal?  A photo of the queen?  A bite of chocolate?  A bathrobe?  A toaster?  A warm bath?  A pamphlet on caring for a new baby?  Congratulations? Nope, none of those things.  The very first thing that a doctor in England offers a new mother after giving birth in England is.... a cup of tea.   Holly said it was the best cup of tea that she has ever had.

2. As with everything, there are many differences in baby and child-rearing vocabulary between British English and American English.  Diaper and Nappy. Pacifier and Dummy. Crib and Cot.  Stroller and Pram. Onesie and Babygrow. But our favourite is:  Peek-a-boo and Peep-o.

Peep-o!  Peep-o!
Peek-a-boo!  Peek-a-boo!

Lastly a few Valentines cookies which someone got up early yesterday to bake.
On the night of Valentines the whole family went to a Chopin piano concert at St James Piccadilly.  Sebastian enjoyed it - he was in a state of deeeeeep concentration for most of the performance, and otherwise awake and alert and quiet which his parents and the entire church very much appreciated.
